And the award for “most factual errors in a debate” goes to…Mitt Romney, the dynamic (as in changes positions quickly) GOP presidential candidate! In the June 5 presidential debate Romney actually said:
“Every Democrat up there’s talking about a form of socialized medicine, government takeover, massive tax increase…. I’m the guy who actually tackled this issue. We get all of our citizens insured…”
There are at least three mistatements here.

Workers comp managed care firm CorVel is once again on the acquisition trail. Schaffer Companies, a Baltimore TPA, was acquired by CorVel with the deal announced yesterday. This deal follows by several months the company’s purchase of California TPA Hazelrigg, a deal that had many in the industry doing a collective head scratch.
The Democratic Presidential debate in New Hampshire earlier this week highlighted a bit of confusion about how many people in the US do not have health insurance.

Some well-intentioned but really misguided legislators in California are proposing to force insurance companies to get regulatory approval before raising rates, copays, or deductibles.
Now that is one really bad idea, an idea that likely never would have come up if not for some really bad decisions by insurers.
A reader posted a very insightful comment on my post regarding hospital overypayments in workers comp.
Her point? “overpayments to hospitals and other providers whom participate in PPO’s are not necessarily accidental or unintentional.”
She is right, and the explanation should give any PA workers comp payer or employer pause.
