UPS deal with Gallagher Bassett

Several industry sources indicate UPS has decided to move about a quarter of its workers compensation business from Liberty Mutual to TPA Gallagher Bassett. The transition date is 1/1/2007.
UPS has been with Liberty from the beginning, and this represents a significant loss, as both claims administration and managed care will be moved to GB.
This is a major win for GB, and may mean that the big TPA has revised its business practices and cleaned up its act. GB has had a few embarassments in the marketplace of late, notably the Broward County School Board fiasco. UPS’ adviser is Aon, a consulting/brokerage house I have been less than impressed with in the past; perhaps Aon, which developed a managed care contracting and evaluation strategy as a direct result of its consulting work at a very large payer, has also upgraded its talent and output.
It appears the rationale was UPS’ desire to reduce the number of eggs per basket. It remains to be seen if the folks in brown have used the right approach and picked a decent basket.

  1. hi my name is mrs scott i work at ups and i also got hurt on my job and filed a claim threw gallagher and bassett, i think they have done a wonderful job with my claim and info as in my my accendent at work. havent hard any more about my claim if approved or not , but other then that its good , weel done crew… mrs scott louisville ky

  2. I am a UPS driver in N. Cailfornia and was injured on 3/05/07. I was on “Light Duty” for 40 days and then when it was convienient for my Center Manager was put out on Worker’s Comp. as I was told I would be recieving surgery. I’ve been out for 2 weeks so far and have not heard anything from Gallagher-Bassett and have not been paid any compensation thus far. I’ve made several calls and have never been called back. I have a claim # and checked their automated system to see when I would expect a payment and there was no record of me even being on Worker’s Comp. All I want and need to do is get fixed and back to work. I think their service is just as bad if not worse than Liberty Mutual. At least with Liberty there was someone I could talk to and they didn’t screw-up my claim.

  3. This is the first time I have needed workmen’s compensation at United Parcel Service. At this point, I am not real positive about Gallager-Bassett. Today G-B in Illinois gave me a contact for G-B in Oklahoma and the number was a shoe store in Kansas City, MO.

  4. I totally agree gallagher bassett is a pain in the ass i fell in the shopko parking lot january 2008.Was told i should except 50% liability because i should have known it was slick when i fell i layed on the ground and couldnt move needless to say i crawled back into my durango went home my mom then took me to the hospital .I ended up having a micro disectomy on my L4-5 that didnt work so they had to do a spinal fusion on my L4-5 .they are being total assholes here it is sept2008 and still know response on what is gonna happen 69000.00 in medical bills plus i have a in home daycare and had to close for awhile because i had to heel from the surgeries. any ideas please respond

  5. I used to work for gallagher bassett, they totally suck when it comes to being a good employer. the mgmt staff is driven by numbers by the client (whom ever that is) gb does not care about their employees only profits and numbers. if they do not like you (ee) they will find a way to fire you. they have fired numerous employees for unjust and no cause. they are like I said about numbers not the staff whom work blood sweat and tears. gb does whatever the client wants no matter how it affects the person injured or the staff member. they have some of their employees work over 50-60 hrs a week just for the numbers. so some of the blame of rude ajusters is actually the client…not all the time but some of the time.

  6. I am having the same problem w/ gallagher basset as well. I have hired a lawyer and they wont even responded to him. that goes to show what kind of company they are. I also have to have surgery, but because I have no other income, how do i feed my kids. my wife and I cant afford for me to be off for 6 weeks after my back surgery, so I will have to wait until tax returns just so we will be okay after surgery. get a lawyer, most of them work pro-bono.

  8. Kids daddy, you need to get an aggressive atty and tell him to go at gb like a pitbull. that will get the case moving. maybe? but all in all they do not care, they will drag it out no matter how long it takes. they have the time and money and you know what, money talks and you know what walks. your atty should call them at least 2 times a week and if they adjuster does not respond get the branch manager involved and they should get the case moving along….? depends on the branch manager of the office. good luck and go get them.

  9. I was injured in June ’06 in Oklahoma. GB has screwed me around financially and medically since. I have a court order dated March of ’08 ordering them to pay medical expenses and retraining. Took them 8 months and a whole lot of continuous complaining from me before the retraining started, and they have denied EVERY SINGLE CLAIM AND PRESCRIPTION since the court order. I lost my home due to this injury and actually had NOWHERE for myself and my pre-teen son to live other than my car and a tent until my ex-husband came to OK and moved us back to WI. I STILL cannot get medical care, and have bills piling up. Meanwhile, the adjuster in OK I asked starting in Sept ’06 to be removed from my case is STILL there, and STILL preventing me from getting what has been ordered.

  10. My husband was injured in April ’07. GB denied his claim but with my husband’s insistence with the hierarchy of his company GB was forced to send out an investigator to again investigate his claim. It is nearly Christmas and nothing has happened other than us losing just about everything. The investigator has already talked to witnesses that confer my husband’s side of the accident and still nothing. FYI if the courts order GB to pay and they wait longer than 30 days in NC…they will be fined 10%of the monies owed to you. GB is HORRIBLE and I hope they go bankrupt!

  11. Oh Lord, just reading the comments about GB has me very fearful. I was injured on the job and the case worker was supposed to call me back for an interview last Friday and never did. Today is Monday and I have attempted 2 times to contact the case worker without any success at all. I need to see an ortho doc but was told by the MD office that if I filed it on my insurance (and not wait on WC) that WC may deny the claim…so now I’m stuck in limbo. This is BS… I am a single parent, home health nurse…can’t skip not one paycheck or we’re in the street. May go ahead and contact my Congressman, he’s helped me in the past.
Good luck to all of us with this crappy company.

  12. I have the same story to share. The adjuster has not returned any of my calls(Monica) and I’ve been trying to contact her since October, 2008. It’s really ridiculous that they are allowed to do this to people. All I want is the money we spent on doctor’s bills. I’m not trying to get rich.

  13. I was hurt on the job twice. The first time, my immediate supervisor refused to give me work-comp info. The second injury was the aftermath of the first injury and now I’m out of work. Gallegher Bassett didn’t even send me to a read doctor for my spinal issues. They send me to a PA at a Med Clinic. When I called GB, they were not helpful at all. They will not return my phone calls and absolutely NO TALK about me getting paid. I’m a single mom and down to my last… well…. not that much money. I think my only option is to sign up for DI in the meantime. I’m so upset about this and my back is MESSED UP! My job is 95% physical and there’s no such thing as light duty. Please help…
